A beautiful antique pin or brooch. Made from a piece of red hand carved celluloid (an early form of plastic). Such a interesting piece with lots of history.
During the late Victorian period the motif of the disembodied hand was very popular and was often the vessel for coded messages. It also symbolised love, friendship and protection.
