Glass pearls, sometimes known as 'simulated pearls' are man made glass beads which imitate real pearls. They are much much better quality and weight than the plastic imitation, which usually peel or discolour on the outside layer.

Glass pearl necklaces were really popular in the 1930s to early 1960s.

Companies like Rosita – 'Pearl Charm' – made exquisite realistic pearl necklaces with an amazing lustre affordable to those who could not afford natural or cultured pearls.

A Rosita necklace would have been sold with a shell-shaped box, and a certificate of authentication with serial number, price and date of purchase. The price of a small double-strand pearl necklace from Rosita back in the 1930s would have set you back around £5. That’s the equivalent of around £300 today!
