A stunning elegant and well made pendant, dating from the late Victorian era in the Edwardian era.
Featuring an intricate art nouveau design incorporating scrolled foliate details and swags. Set with well matched seed pearls and a bezel set, round faceted amethyst with a regal purple hue.
I think at one point it would have had a drop set stone hanging from the bottom.
A beautiful piece to wear and enjoy for years to come.
Drop 42mm, 38x30x4mm
2.99g
A plate marked 9CT on the back, testing as 9ct gold
Seed pearls. 5.5mm round mixed cut amethyst, estimated weight 0.6cts.
Chain NOT included
Good condition for its age, seed pearls show some wear. Some patina due to the age of the gold.
I have not polished it off as I feel it adds to the charm.
Lavaliers began around the 17th century. An elongated pendant that hangs from a chain with a pendant drop, often a pearl. A very flattering design if worn long or higher at the neck.
Lavaliers get their name from the Duchesse de La Valliere, the mistress of Louis XIV in the 1660s. In the 1800s this style would become very popular and continue on into the Edwardian era. Many believe its popularity was due to the French actress Eve Lavalliere.
The giving of a lavalier necklace symbolises a long-term commitment.
